Startup Error Message
As Ubuntu starts, when the Logo splash screen appears I can see a list of services which are loaded and started with OK at the end of each line.
A couple of lines have started appearing in red with Fail at the end of the line. The lines scroll off the screen quickly and so I cannot read them. One appears that it may be relating to Firestarter but I am not sure...
I guess these failures are problems and are logged somewhere. I would like to have a look at what are the problems but I cannot work out which of the system logs they appear in.
Where may these messages be read?

You can take a look at /var/log/messages (or run "dmesg"). Also take a look at other logs in /var/log.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took a look at the /var/log/messages and there certainly is a lot of information. So I searched for "Failed" and get a few messages which also appear related to security very similar to the following but I am not sure if they are relevant or not....
Quote:
Nov 18 14:34:56 ga-m55s-s3 kernel: [ 29.164595] Failure registering capabilities with primary security module.

But I also see some message as follows which appear to be connected to NFS which is interesting since I have been trying to get NFS working and whilst all is set up it looks like a firewall is in the way for some reason
Quote:
Nov 18 17:00:14 ga-m55s-s3 kernel: [ 62.367244] NFSD: Using /var/lib/nfs/v4recovery as the NFSv4 state recovery directory
Nov 18 17:00:14 ga-m55s-s3 kernel: [ 62.385217] NFSD: starting 90-second grace period
Nov 18 17:00:14 ga-m55s-s3 kernel: [ 62.681540] Failure registering capabilities with primary security module.

This is part of the log file ..... (the system here does not let me post the full log)
