starting usb device with system

Hi all I've got a problem which is driving me mad. I'm trying to make a USB device start at system start up. At present I need to either plug in after boot or plug out then in for it to work. It's detected at boot, proc/bus.../devices shows it, it's kernel module is also loaded lsmod shows it. However it's not active. I've tried setting up a node (?) in udev but this only appears when I unplug and plug device back in, so basically no effect.

PS the device is a touchscreen, the kernel module it loads is usbtouchscreen, xorg does not work with it unless I again unplug replug.

Can anyone advise how I can make it go from /proc/bus...devices to starting up without the on off. Please!
Thanks

I do not have your hw, but you might want to consider the pros and cons of having persistent rules to activate your device?

keywords for any search of ubuntu...udev hal persistent

edit forgot to mention on mdv I have folder
/dev/.udev

but you may have touch as input device under
/dev/input?
