Sound on a Gateway M675 Running Kubuntu

I have a Gateway M675 that I have gotten virtually everything else besides the sound working on. I'm dumbfounded as to what to do to get it to work. Any suggestions? I am running Kubuntu Fiesty on it.

play some song. volume a bit low.

type
$ alsamixer

and mute a parameter called "headphone jack sense" and increase all Master, PCM. If this does not work post:
$ lsmod (as root)
$ hwinfo --sound

I got my sound problem figured out, but now everytime I reboot, I have to go and change the settings in kmixer so that it works.

reboot the machine. Change settings in kmix so that sound works. now as root:

$ alsactl store

Next time you reboot the settings will NOT change
