Sound from Intel PR440FX on Ubuntu 5.10

I removed SuSE Pro 9.1 from my home built system opting to try Ubuntu 5.10 on this PR440FX based dual Pentium Pro motherboard. The machine had worked flawlessly under Red Hat 7.3, 8.0, 9.0 and SuSE Pro 9.1, I was able to listen to music, play sounds etc but a generic Ubuntu installation does not recognize the built in sound card. I was able to download the kernel source and create a custom kernel to have Ubuntu support both processors (out of the box it only used one).

Does anyone know how I can get Ubuntu to recognize the built in sound card available on the Intel PR440FX?

I really do not possess an answer for you but when all else fails.

www.google.com/linux

Search for your sound card.
