sound blaster problem
im having troubles with my sound blaster live value sound card. it works just fine in all of the other distros i own but it doesnt seem to want to play any of my sound on kubuntu. i am wondering if it has to do with the other sound card that is in this box too. but i dont see why it would be when this hardware config worked just fine in mandriva 2007, tried resetting the default sound card as well still no luck. here is what lspci -v -G outputs:
02:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 0a)
Subsystem: Creative Labs SBLive! 5.1 eMicro 28028
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10
I/O ports at df40 [size=32]
Capabilities: <access denied>
02:0c.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port (rev 0a)
Subsystem: Creative Labs Gameport Joystick
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64
I/O ports at dfe0 [size=8]
Capabilities: <access denied>

I hate sounding like a fool, but why do you have two sound cards?
Is one built into the motherboard? if so, does sound work on that one?
Also, what driver are you using for your sound under linux? Is it ALSA? ALSA should pick up *most* creative labs sound cards (please, someone correct me if i am WAY off!)

i had two sound cards because i was trying out another one for a bit but it wouldnt work with my speakers... but thats a different story. im using alsa with the emu101k sound card driver for creative, its the one kubuntu installed for me....
thanks much for the timely replies but i seem to have dorked out in my troubleshooting process, i forgot to open up the alsamixer and check to see if the card was muted there or not; turns out that was the problem the whole time lol. now to get mp3's playing...

I grabbed this straight out of wikipedia:
Quote:
Restore Alsa Mixer settings at Startup
* Run 'alsactl' once to create '/etc/asound.state'
alsactl store
* Edit '/etc/rc.conf' and add 'alsa' to the list of daemons to start on bootup. This will store the mixer settings on every shutdown and restore them when you boot.

Check it out at: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/...the_sound_card
Or, you could try this:
