Hello Everyone
I've just switched from Redhat 9.0 to Ubuntu5.10, and I've found it much smoother and better looking
, however I am having some small problems:
1.I've read the ubuntuguide.org, and the rpm repositories seem to be out of date, and although I have uncommented every the repositoiry address in /etc/apt/source.list, then "sudo apt-get update", it still cannot find common rpm packages such as xine, flashplayer, sun-j2re1.5 etc. here's my source.list:
Code:
deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 5.10 _Breezy Badger_ - Release i386 (20051012)]/ breezy main restricted
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted
## Major bug fix updates ##
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted
## Universe repository ##
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy universe
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy universe
## Backports ##
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security main restricted
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security main restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security universe
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security universe
2. When I viewed movies in .wmv format, they were very choppy, I did download the following following codecs:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.8-plugins
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.8-lame
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg
sudo apt-get install w32codecs
sudo apt-get install libdivx4linux
sudo apt-get install lame
sudo apt-get install sox
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
sudo apt-get install mjpegtools
sudo apt-get install vorbis-tools
gst-register-0.8
but gstreamer0.8-lame, w32codecs, libdivx4linux, lame, and mjpegtools seemed to be missing from the above repositories?
3. I usually do my programming tasks in vim, but I was unable to turn on the java syntax.
4. If I were to find an rpm on other websites, say sourceforge.net, which distribution should I download, before I can use packages from both Fedora3 and Redhat 9.0, but there doesn't seem to be a binary package for Ubuntu? (Debian?)
That's all I have for now,
Thank you for your time
