Talking SOLVED!!! For me anyway- Flash crashes FF

Xubuntu Edgy version 4.3.99.1 (Xfce 4.4 BETA2), with the xorg.conf file from Mepis 6.0 so the 1440x990 screen resolution would work FF 2.0 that came with the distro and Opera 9.02, downloaded from Operas web site.

FF would crash the second that anything flash would play, or if Gmail would start. Opera would only play the sound from the flash animation but no video.

I tried everything on the various sites that came up in Google for "flash crashes firefox" then came across a comment from someone that it was fixed for him when he changed the default color depth to 24 bit from 16 bit. I changed it and it works just fine. (for me)

To fix, type in a terminal sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf, type in your password, maximize, down arrow to the default depth, change to 24 from 16. Save and you are good to go. Saving is a two step process in Nano, watch it. Reboot then see if it works.

Will give this a try

I too haven't searched for info on this. My situation:
Edubuntu 6.10 (EdgyEft) running LTSP thin clients. All works well on the main computer (though I had to do a double take when I found you can actually install Macromedia Flash through the web page; i.e., don't have to go to command line.) Flash web site pages display properly. But whenever a thin client hits a web page with Flash, Firefox dies.

Being new to LTSP, I'll have to research how to make the setting you describe for the thin clients. Do you know?

Thanks for the post.

People have been experiencing a wide range of problems with flash. Each problem requires a different solution. For crashing, you might do a google and see what turns up, or visit the moz forums for help.
