Slow access to Western Digital MyBook Live Duo NAS?

Hello all. (Relative newbie Linux user here).

I've mounted a Western Digital MyBook Live Duo NAS on my home network to my Ubuntu 12.4 computer, and it works -- just very slowly for reading/writing files. Connecting to it from my Win7/Win8 machines is blink-of-an-eye performance.

Here's the line in /etc/fstab that creates the mount:

//192.168.0.4/Public /mnt/PhotoArch cifs user=admin,password=,uid=1000,gid=100 0 0

Is there a better way to mount this drive to get improved performance?

Many thanks!

Hi,

The NAS should also support NFS, which might be better than CIFS.

If the performance is much better from Windows, which also uses CIFS, I'm not sure the problem is with the mount - can't think of a reason Linux would be slower. Have you considered other possibilities, like the physical network links? Are the 2 clients connected in the same way - ethernet/wifi, speed?
