Slim Xubuntu, what files can I remove ?
I have tried several microsdists and yet not found a complete as ubuntu.
Im only using my linux for web surfing and lighter word/calc processing as leafpad, xcalc. I want to slim down install size, I allready removed games, word/calc-proc, movie players etc out of my xubuntu via synaptic but that did not reduce size much(I did run apt-get autoclean/remove after). Im now looking for removing languages, libraries codecs etc and need tips and ideas what and how to remove. Is there a tool ? , Im told cruft remover only sets back to org install ? I think server install is for timeconsuming, I believe removing out of existing is quickest path to my goal. I also appreciate tips for downloading config files for jwm or fluxbox or any other very light window manager for ubuntu, someone else must have been down this path ahead of me, the user interface do not have to be nice, for me it is good with a black desktop but with a clear quick program launcher/menu. Yes I did try fluxbuntu, pudbuntu and crash bang, they are not small. All tips, ideas and comments are most appreciated.
rgds peter.

Go to synaptic package manager, search for xubuntu-desktop, go to properties, look under dependencies, remove all the packages listed under "recommended"

didnt get what you mean but solved anyway, xfce is large and bloated, removed and replaced with lxde(openbox is ugly), gdm is redicoulos, removed(I did a server install and smacked on xorg with lxde, quicker). Can I somewhere see what drivers are currently used for my system and which are obsolete ? I just must cut down the too much usr/share/drivers/.
While Im on it, can I find out what wingdings that are necessary for lxde, opera, fileman etc in usr/share/fonts & icons and which are removable ?
