Can someone tell me why when i go to shutdown the only option i get is "end current session". I've tried running sudo kcontrol (i'm using KDE, i have Gnome and KDE installed) and then going to system admin/login manager/shutdown making sure that 'everybody' is enabled.
I've then gone to session manager and made sure that 'offer shutdown options' is checked, but i still just get 'end current session' instead of reboot e.t.c.
Please help.
Also, it's not saving the desktop on reboot although if i log out and then back in everything's in the right place. If the machine has been shutdown all the icons are back on the left hand side generally messed up!
Also, any advice on getting the essential codecs package working on my AMD64 installation of Ubuntu, the 'codecs' directory where i'm supposed to install doesn't exist.
Lastly, I've managed to install libdvdcss and Kaffeine picks it up but still won't play my DVD's, any help would be appreciated.
When you start kdm and it's not the default displaymanager, it sets itself to be the default in the future. The same goes for gdm. I don't know about xdm though. It proboably works the same way too.
I'm using gnome with GDM same problem. Session manager only asks if I want confirmation on logout. I was given options until it hibernated for the first time, but then they disappeared. Seems something else than the login manager is misconfigured here.
