sftp on ubuntu 5.4


hi all of you


i have a problem that i cant use sftp from windows to ubuntu but i can use putty to connect to the system by port 22 and it say that the password is wrong and i am sure it is not so can any one help me fix this problem ?

Usually its security.

Check that the .ssh subdirectory is owned and writable ONLY by the owner (if group or other has write permissions its considered insecure so ssh/sftp won't succeed).

Also make sure the parent directory above .ssh (usually the user's home directory) is also only writable by the user. If writable by group or other then they can change .ssh so its still considered insecure.

Finally make sure you have a password for the user in question. Even if you never intend to use the password there must be one in place as again it is considered insecure by ssh as anyone can login as the user and modify the .ssh stuff.
