setting up apt


i just installed ubuntu on my laptop and i have never used it before. i would like to set up apt with some good repositories. i need some with things like xmms and k3b adn other medi applications. can anyone give me a link to a howto or at least where i could find some repositiries.

open up synaptic, then settings>repositories

ok but can you give me some good repositories, i need to get xmms and current versions of thunderbird and gaim the gima that son there is really old.

I would stick with the Ubuntu repositories and versions only. I got into dependency hell using others. If you wish not to heed this warning - look here for instructions for Thunderbird and other stuff:
