Set DNS in ubuntu, how??

ok, i got a tricky problem, but maybe easy for experisence linux users. To the problem

i got Ubuntu 5.04 on a CD, but i don't really like gnome so i did think i should download kubuntu, so i only install the server version of ubuntu. the problem with downloading is that my isp delivery changes the ip (i think) 1 or 2 times every our so i need too add there isp so ubuntu can find the connection.

Becuase what happends now is that i start downloading but after about 30min do the connection break and i can't do anything.

So i need help with setting my DNS by using the shell consol or what the exakt name is
i did try too set the DHCP host but it didn't wotk so i think i will need too set the dns ip. i have the ip so eimply set something like 127.0.0.1

Please give me exakt discription, sorry newbie

thanks for u help

Just to avoid future deceptions, if your ISP is changing your IP address and that makes the download to fail, installing your own DNS will not change anything to your problem.

The DNS is there so you can find the IP address of *other* people, but gives you no control over *your* ip address.

For dhcp in the commandline it's enought to do a dhclient eth0 (or whatever your interface is).

Good luck,

G

Why not try Gwget should be available for Ubuntu

It's a Gnome front for Wget

This has a resume feature so if the connection breaks you should be able to restart the download and continue where you left off
