Screen Res. on Averatec AV4155-EH1 (SiS Video), Installing LimeWire - ubuntu 6.06

Hey everyone, hows it going?

As the title says i have a few questions about a couple things im trying to do, but keep in mind i havent touched linux in about 2-3 years and even then i was still a n00b but here it goes.

Right now im on a widescreen laptop, model is in the title, but my question is does ubuntu dapper support anything higher than 1024x768? I searched for my video drivers from sis but all i found were redhat 7.x distro drivers, but is it really the drivers i need to install to achieve higher resolution? Basically what i want to do is display my desktop in its native resolution, 1280x800.

And the question about LimeWire. I installed java for it, but i dont know where it installed to. Is there someway to figure that out and have limewire look in the right folder for it?

Even if you guys can point me in the direction of something that might be able to help me thatd be great.

Thanks in advance
-black

*Edit* i forgot to mention im running the 64bit version, which may have been dumb on my part, but oh well, if i need to ill install the 32bit version :/

Frostwire is a clone of limewire which can be easily installed via apt-get.

What type of video card do you have?

Check out this guide referencing how to install video card drivers and other software.

Do you have a nvidia, ati, or other video card?

From what I remember, SiS isn't that great when it comes to Linux support. I have a desktop computer that runs it, but the resolution isn't that great.

Well, the video doesnt bother me too much, its just stretched and looks weird and a little blurry, so i guess i just have to wait till SiS has better support for linux ... but my other question still stands. I just recently checked which version of java i have installed and its 1.4.2, limewire needs at least 1.4.x+ to install. Now i tried installing 1.5.0 and it said it worked but when i checked to see which version i had it said 1.4.2.

Now regardless, it should install, so am i doing something wrong? When i run the install it says java found verifying path, then it says i dont have the correct version installed. :/
