My board is ASUS A8V-VM (VIA Chipset 939 Socket). My hard disk (Seagate 80GB SATA) is not detected by ubuntu. How I can install ubuntu. (or which linux distro i can install)

Could you provide some more information about where the installation stops,
and what exactly makes you say (for example, an error message) that the
drive is not detected?

Also, which version of Ubuntu are you using?

Thanks for trying to help. the prob was with chipset drivers. i resolved the problem myself

i think i may have a similar problem. When I tried to install the Ubuntu AlternateCD I got to the point where it was supposed to detect my hard disk. It did not find the driver and asked me to specify my driver. How do i find out what driver i need? I can't continue with the installation because I can't partition my hard drive if Ubuntu doesn't recognize it yet.

I have a Santa Rosa motherboard and a Intel Centrino Pro processor, 2 GB DDR2 RAM and a 120 GB SATA HDD 5400rpm hard disk. its a Lenovo Thinkpad T61. i'm currently running Windows Vista.

Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M graphics card
