safe com pcmcia card was working now not

Hi all,
I have a wireless pcmcia card - safecom swlc-54108

I have been using it on my kubuntu system for a while now and have managed to connect to various networks with no probs at all, open and encrypted.

One evening a couple of days ago it just stopped working and i havent been able to get it up since. not sure what to do.

I have also since installed kubuntu 6.10 from 6.06

I have setting it up from the network setting under system setting as well as the Wireless Assistant LAN Manager.

The Wireless Assistant LAN Manager finds my wireless network but just says failed to connect all the time.

I have selected the forget settings and started from scratch a couple of time to no avail.

I have also done various combinations of ifdown wlan0 and ifup wlan) with the Wireless Assistant LAN Manager but also with no luck

Hope someone has an idea.

Ta guys/gals

out of curiosity do you have any other distro's installed that the card still works on?
did the card stop working after upgrading to 6.10?

when you do a $iwconfig does the card show up properly? is it listed as having wireles extensions.. i.e. does it look like it used to?

i dont know about this particular card but you can try pulling it out and putting it back in and then do a $tail /var/log/messages (hopefully pulling the card doesnt crash your machine ;) )
see if the card is mentioned in the output for the $tail command.

you may be able to use $cardctl eject and $cardctl insert and then do the $tail /var ..etc...

you may want to even try re-installing the driver and/or firmware for the card as well
not sure if any of that helps but is my two cents worth

;)

cheers

The card did work for a short while after the new install...

Ok what has happened since (last night) i re-installed the 6.06 and it is now working again...

well mostly the interface is up but it does not actually connect to the network or get an IP address from the router until i go to the wireless network manager and manually connect there.
The w.n.m. does remember all the settings at least but is there a way to get it to connect without me doing that.

In System setting -> network settings it is set to start at boot...

Thanks for the response -=Graz=-

PS the iwconfig shows and showed card fine, was very strange.

Thanks
