Do you mean that you have enabled the
root account on Ubuntu and forgotten the root password? Or do you mean that you have forgotten the first user (i.e., the user account that you used to install Ubuntu??) password that you would use with sudo?

I have used every version of Ubuntu since the inaugural 4.10. I have never found any need or reason to enable the root account on Ubuntu.
I also never have these problems!
If you have enabled the root account and forgot the password for the root account and want to disable the root account account and return to using sudo for admin privileges, see this:
