Unhappy Root Login Broken

Hi Everyone,

I just installed Ubuntu Hoary preview 5.04 and the KDE packages and am somewhat impressed with it.

I have a quite major problem though: I can't log in as root.
This is a very necessary thing for me as almost all things I do in Linux require root access and sudo just won't cut it.

Can anyone tell me how to make the system allow me to log in as root from GDM?
I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance.

to set a root account after install via the sudo user account

open a terminal
(not the root terminal)
write

sudo passwd root
press enter

enter user (sudo) password

then enter a root password
re-enter the root password

close terminal

then open
computer/system config/logon setup/security
tick root can log on using GDM

log out then in the logon window
enter
root
then the root password

you are now in root on Ubuntu ...

That's strange...

Resetting the root password like you said fixed it.
I already had GDM set to allow root to log in but it still didn't work.

I am logged in as root now so thanks a lot!
