Question root access on my own server

Hello , i have an Ubuntu Server (from virtual server proviler) and i am connecting on it ussing SSH.

Ussing PuTTY i have to type
Code:
sudo su
and my password first in order to get full access.

But when i am connecting using WinSCP , i dont have permission on my own files.

Do you know how i could deal with this ?

Thank you.

Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 375 Oct 27 16:57 /var/www/index.php
i tried it on a test file but i have to note that i want to take rights for the whole filesystem :/
I also have to note that my username is "user" (this was given by the VPS provider)

Okay, and using WinSCP are you trying to read (i.e. download from the server) or write (i.e. upload files to the server)? According to what you posted, you should be able to download but not upload (because of the permissions on that file).
