Has anyone here managed to install Rhythmbox 0.9.7 or 0.9.8 on Ubuntu 6.06?? I compiled 0.9.7 from source and it installed fine, however it did NOT install or configure the "Albumn Art" plugin. Has anyone compiled this program WITH Albumn Art and got it to work with Dapper?? Thanks!
Any specific reasons for not using 'apt-get install rhythmbox'?
Yes, under the (Ubuntu 6.06)Dapper repostories that I am using (the ones from the Ubuntu Guide website + the Banshee respository), only Rhythmbox version 0.9.3 is available. Is there a better repository to use?
Wait a second, the repositories I am using are a completely DIFFERENT source.list file than the one Ubuntu came with in the initial installation. I wonder if I use the original sources.list if that will have the updated version.
Hmmm, why don't you try other players? Many are not aware but 'Exaile' is a very good player, think of it as Amarok for Gnome.
#apt-get install exaile
It's my current favorite.
Edit : A little intro.
Quote:
Exaile is a media player aiming to be similar to KDE's AmaroK, but for GTK+. It incorporates many of the cool things from AmaroK (and other media players) like automatic fetching of album art, handling of large libraries, lyrics fetching, artist/album information via the wikipedia, last.fm support, optional iPod support (assuming you have python-gpod installed).
In addition, Exaile also includes a built in shoutcast directory browser, tabbed playlists (so you can have more than one playlist open at a time), blacklisting of tracks (so they don't get scanned into your library), downloading of guitar tablature from fretplay.com, and submitting played tracks on your iPod to last.fm.
Thank you for the recommendation. I gave Exaile a test spin. After some special tinkering, I got Exaile to work. Here are my my quick observations.
1. I really do NOT like the layout at all.
2. I miss the Artist and Albumn menus. It made for really quick navigation. The tree view sucks (IMHO).
3. Rhythmbox can update and import my entire 30GB collection of music in seconds. Exaile took a few minutes.
I appreciate your suggestions, but I believe I will stick with Rhythmbox.
YEY!!! I got rhythmbox 0.9.8 installed. I compiled it from source and used checkinstall in order to make .deb package. The reason it wouldn't compile with all of the goodies (ie Cover art plugin, etc) before was that apparently I didn't have the proper python development package installed (I installed a bunch of them. I have no idea which one fixed it.) Now, all is working GREAT!
