Removing some packages will remove Xubuntu
I'm trying to remove some packages that I find unnecessary. I'm trying to remove "dvd+rw-tools" package, but Synaptic says that Xubuntu-Desktop will also be removed. Does that mean that I'll lose Xubuntu? i'm on Xubuntu, by the way. It's not just the dvd tools, but also for xfburn, abiword, mozilla-thunderbird, etc.

What's going on? Is removing abiword really going to remove my Xubuntu Desktop? Or are they safe to remove?

sounds like [meta]-dependencies of all of Ubuntu branded distros do this, if you want something more modular and customizable try Zenwalk-3.0 or wait a few weeks and Slackware-11 will be released, both are highly customizable without the branding of packages unnecessarily tied together...

xubuntu-desktop is a meta-package, you can remove it without damaging your system. But it is recommended that it's installed if the default set of apps changes then you'll need it to add them.
