Cool Reinstall network manager on xubuntu version 14 vaio laptop

I accidentally deleted the subgroup interface on the top right of the screen, which contained the network manager. So I'm hoping that can be reinstalled.

All the info I can find for setting up wireless connections, which is all I really needto do, refer to clicking on network manager, which is gone via accidental deletion.

Any help is appreciated, I'll update the version info when I get back to the machine.

I run Wicd. So I cannot swear if this works or not.
edit: never mind. My link was for Unity and not xfce.

The version is 14.04

When right clicking the top bar and hovering panel and clicking 'add more items', the 'notification area' option is greyed out. (Something to fix in future development?)

Still searching for a way to get that back. Don't have a hardwire or know of one...

Did you check the Settings Manager? There is a section there for configuring your panel.

I am not sure that it will work under Xubuntu properly as there are conflicting tools from gnome installed. But if running an unpolluted Xfce you should be able to fix it there.

On the other hand it really sounds like you shouldn't be getting that grayed out crap when working directly from the panel. My hope is that the error when you work from the right click on the panel it is interference caused by nautilus which Xubuntu installs to control the desktop.

Xubuntu is a nice looking system, users were great testers when I was testing, but it really is a crazy set up.

Red face

Figured it out...

Turns out the Network Manager is part of the 'Indicator Plug' (which also contains the power manager, sound controller and mail interface, oddly enough), and I was able to reinstall it by simply 'adding' it from the 'add' menu after right clicking on the panel.

Not very intuitive by any means but at least the option to reinstall from the machine/software without having to download it was there.

Thanks for your help
