reassign /var space to /


I am using ubuntu 9.04 Desktop edition..40GB HDD
While Installing I have assigned 15GB to /var..
Now I want to make that 15GB part of / ...
Is this possible in any way....

Yeah it is possible, all you have to do it copy the data out of /var and put it in a temporary folder that will be renamed /var.

1. Shut down your computer and boot up using something else, like a Live CD or something along those lines. If you do it while in your system, you often get errors since it is in use.

2. Once in the live environment, create a new folder under / called whatever

3. Copy /var to /whatever

4. Using GParted or something, you can erase the /var partition and grow your / partition to fill the rest of the space. *Make sure you have everything before erasing, /var is important.*

5. Rename /whatever to /var after deleting the original /var
