LOL, I think you're right, Helmut, cause guess what? My latest attempt to, once again, delete an unusued Linux partition has now caused a serious warning that my HDD may be about to experience massive failure due to a bad cylinder, sector, or something like that. So I'm busy burning DVD's and backups. Of course, I'm also about to give a lie to my handle, and re-do Windows from scratch (as opposed to from my Acronis backups) because I suspect the whole WGA Notify hell I went through last Sunday has caused other instabilities. Of course, too, the WGA Notify false-positive and how angry I am at MS is the reason I'm here...

Reasons: Mandriva has very "user-friendly" graphical partitioning tools, and also mounts all the Windows stuff automatically by default.

I'll certainly check it out, along with some others designed more for beginners. I do some pretty advanced things here (e.g. getting Partition Magic to work with x64 was no picnic, cause it's only designed for win32, and put key files in the wow64 system directory instead of the system32, causing all sorts of hell) and script-level programming, but I've never claimed I was an expert. An enthusiast/obsessive maybe... My problem is I like challenge too much, and people who know me like to laugh at me because I do tend to
