problems with utf8

Which file I must modify to change utf8 to iso8859-15 charset

binary_y2k2 08-11-2006 10:44 AM

you need to run
Code:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure localeconf
and choose the charset

And dont crosspost threads.

Now it's all OK!

Neither readers can know whether this refers to changing the character set of a file, or some application, or the operation system...

Nor they know whether it was binary_y2k2's suggestion that brought the solution.

Moreover, stepping from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-x is a regression / back step in almost any cases - the more globally the worse!

Also, personally, I think every thread at LinuxQuestions (and other forums) should be a self-contained, self-explaining one, which also considers "foreign" readers coming from Google etc., being in search of their own current problem.
By posting our problems - and, if any, the solution - by making our problems reproducable - we don't just take, but at the same time give information to readers with similar problems. And to the ones who're helping us, of course!

And, in any of these concerns, this thread is one of the most miserable ones I've ever seen.

I do agree, I was watching this post for about an hour before I replied to it with one possible solution. I my self found LinuxQuestions.org by googleing for a solution to a problem so I can understand completely what Robbert is saying here. From the original post it seemed more likely that hraposo was asking for a system-wide change to ISO-8859-15, by asking what file to change. But, yes it is a backward step in almost all ways, but it's the users choice what they choose and the consequences are on them there after.
