Unhappy Problems running game Crossfire

Installed all the Crossfire game packages from the Synaptic package manager. (I think from the universe/multiverse repositry) The game won't run when I go into console and run it from there I can see the following:

rob@ubuntu:~$ crossfire
Unable to open /var/log/crossfire/logfile as the logfile - will use stderr instead
Welcome to CrossFire, v1.6.0

error on bind command: Address already in use
error on bind command
rob@ubuntu:~$
rob@ubuntu:~$

Can anyone help me get this game running? I'm not a complete newbie but it is best to assume so. Managed to get games like Quake 3 and Cube running so far with a bit of trouble shooting, but on this one I'm stuck.

Can anyone help?

I am not familiar with the game, but it sounds like it is trying to listen on a socket port on your computer that is being used by something else. Are there docs or man pages or something that indicate a config file you can set the port(s) the game listens on? Maybe the default port interferes with something else you have installed?

I'll check this out, I think the game might be a bit thin on documentation but I'll see what I can find.
I'm not too hot on things like sockets. It would be usefull if all sockets in use and by what process could be easilty viewed I guess.
