Problems Installing Ubuntu on a 965 chipset

I am having problems installing my ubuntu distribution on my machine.

I have an ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard which is a 965 chipset.

When i try to install it, all it does is sit at a black screen with the cursor flashing. I am very new to linux. IS there some kind of patch to get it to work with the 965 chipset.

This HCL(Hardware Compatibilty List) is for the Asus P4P800-E Deluxe, might be close to what you have:

Not sure it is your hardware that is the problem, you might have a bad cd you are installing from.

This is all you see? You do not get to the installation screen? If you don't get past a cursor, and no installation screen, then it is probably a bad cd. Did you download it yourself and burn it as an "image file"?
