Problem: Youtube video screen - Shockwave flash - White screen. Firefox.

Yes I use Firefox on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition.
When ever I try to watch a video, most of the time, where the black video screen is supposed to be seen, is not seen. It is a large white/light grey square. I refresh lots of times because that is what used to cure the glitch, but not anymore. I want it to stop permanently, and I can't as of yet figure out how to do so. I CAN use Opera.. but even if I use that, it's a slow load up time, and you can't click the suggested video icons after you have finished the video. I attached a screen shot of Youtube with the problem. Suggestions appreciated. |
i have same problem and i had searched for a solution and i can't fix it

NoVideo
This is my first post, and I would like to join the two posts about no video. My configuration is Karmic with Firefox installed.
I used the KDE system for several years and moved to Karmic this year. I did not have this problem is the KDE distro. I suspect a problem with the streaming functions in Firefox or Ubuntu. Reason: Occasionally, I will get an error screen that states "An Error has occurred." Black screen. Jerry-KE5PUT |

- Right-click it and tell of the options you see.
- Are you accepting cookies? - Under Tools -> Options-> Applications, what are the entries for Flash? - Are you using Ubuntu's distribution of Flash or did you D/L it from Adobe's site? (Just troubleshooting right now) |
I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and now I cannot play embedded youtubes. Youtubes from the youtube site itself play ok.
Using a tip about about:plugins from someone on the firefox list I discovered the following plugins are in use: /var/lib/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libtotem-cone-plugin.so video/flv Flash video flv So... one plugin plays youtube itself and the other fails to play embedded youtubes? jfl@ws3:~$ uname -a Linux ws3 2.6.31-21-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 24 07:28:27 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux] jfl@ws3:~$ firefox -version Mozilla Firefox 3.5.9, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2010 mozilla.org Any help would really be appreciated. Still wish I had never hit the upgrade button. |
