Problem with C compiler when trying to install from source

Hello,

I just installed ubuntu 6.10 the other day.

I keep trying to install from source (I've tried installing amarok dependencies, amarok, etc.) but I keep getting an error in about the last line of terminal output.

The terminal keeps saying: 'configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables'

I was wondering if there is a way to resolve this, or should I just reinstall the os?

Thanks!

No, no internet connection currently on my ubuntu laptop. I keep using another laptop of mine to get to the internet, as I have dialup until I move in about a month, I can't just plug in a network cable and download from ubuntu repositories.

Thanks

Then you have to install the packages from CD (they are there, as far as I know), but I can't say the command (Never seen Ubuntu in my life..).

Awesome, thank you both!

I didn't even think to insert the cd and install more packages, they all seem to be installed from the ubuntu cd now.
