I have posted this on Ubuntu forums but drew a blank, so thought I'd try my luck here.
I'd been having crashing problems with VMplayer 1.0.4, so decided maybe a reinstall would fix it.
Tried to uninstall it and got the messages
"The following problems were found on your system"
"E: vmware-player: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should run 'dpkg --configure -a"
Well running dpkg --configure -a does not fix the problem.
if I try doing this via the command line (to get a more verbose output) I get
Code:
not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B/11.8MB of archives.
After unpacking 0B of additional disk space will be used.

My investigation so far have shown I have no "/etc/vmware/locations" directory, for whatever reason, so what ever its trying to find here will fail.
I'm unable to completely remove or reinstall it, I guess now its in such a state it'll have to be done by hand, but I'll need some guideance here, if anyone can spare the time.
Anyway how can I fix this and get the package reinstalled and working again.
Thanks
