problem installing ubuntu 8.10
 

Hello everyone,
I use a AMD Athlon X2 64-bit machine. For some reason i'm having problems installing ubuntu 8.10 on it. After selecting "Install Ubuntu" on the install menu , all i see is a blank screen with a blinking cursor on the top left corner. Any idea what might be the problem?

It could be a number of things, with no error messages it could take a while to locate the problem. Instead why not try the latest Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04. I suggest you load it up in live mode first, if all is well there's an icon on the desktop to initiate an install.

Also, make sure you burn the disc at the slowest possible speed in order to reduce the risk of errors on the CD. Then when you boot up the live CD, choose the option "check disc for defects". Let that run. If it passes, then the disc is ok. If not, then you need to burn a new disc.
