I have no experience with alien so maybe this is unhelpful and you want a specific version of nedit. But why not install the version from the repositories?

Code:
 apt-cache search nedit
e3 - A very small editor
gmanedit - GTK+/GNOME Man pages editor
gnome-iconedit - A small tool to create icons for the gnome-desktop
manedit - A GTK+-based Enhanced ManPage Editor and -Viewer
nedit - A powerful, customizable, Motif based text editor
tiemu-skinedit - skin editor for TiEmu
zope-externaleditor - Zope External Editor
zopeedit - Helper Application for Zope External Editor
kiconedit - an icon editor for KDE
Grtz,

Angkor.
