Probelms with /etc/resolve.conf

Hi! I have a problem with the file /etc/resolve.conf

Initially it is empty and of coursae i can't connect iternet.

I add all de nameserver in my case I add this lines:

nameserver 80.58.61.250
nameserver 80.58.61.254
nameserver 194.179.1.100
nameserver 194.179.1.101

and then all is ok!

But the problem is when I restart my pc it rewrites me the resol.conf file anda it's again empty.

Somebody can help me?????

Thanks

Hopefully somebody else can give you a fuller/better explanation, but I suspect the intention is that resolv.conf gets populated when an interface is brought up. You might want to check into what network manager is doing. (I recently acquired and edgy eft system, and figuring out network manager is definitely on my "to do" list.

EDIT: When I first posted, I was doing something else with my Ubuntu box and so couldn't test. I have now tested, and resolve.conf's contents were preserved across a reboot. What version of Ubuntu are your running? Are there any changes you've made to your system that you think might be relevant here?

This is distro and Window Manager specific.
It is a pain. I got into this problem while switching from static to dhcp and back. Gnome was doing strange things so I manually edited the file.
Mine fortunatly stays on reboot (running debian sid)
The best is to not rely on the Window Manager to do this (you could also want internet access without X-window eh..) So it should only be distro specific.
What distribution do you run?

Had this problem at work and it stumped me for awhile. I bet it's your DHCP server. Your network card is pulling an IP address from your DHCP server, which has the options of assigning nameservers.
