Printer Recommendations
I can't get my Lexmark Z32 to play nice with Ubuntu so I'm going to buy a new printer. Any recommendations as what prints well with Ubuntu? I'm just looking for a color inkjet, don't need copier/fax etc. Thanks.

I have an HP Photosmart 8250. It works very well, and it uses separate ink cartridges. HP is noted as one of the better companies for Linux printer support.

Have a look on linuxprinting.org:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer...gi?make=Anyone
You will find your Lexmark in the works partialy list. Click on link and it gives you info on drivers etc.
If you still want a new printer:
HP are said to be the most compatible, I have a HP5740 deskjet which works perfectly using the hplip drivers.
I think Epsons are good with Linux too. But have had no experience with these printers.

HP is a good choice with Linux. Ubuntu uses the latest HP drivers. I have an HP PSC 1410 that prints, scans and copies. It's under $80 and all functions work well with Ubuntu.

Have downloaded the HP linux printer driver via Soundforge, etc and cannot run it from terminal. Tried running the command they suggest, which is ./hplip-1.6.9.run (I used sudo before it and my password). Using Ubuntu 6.06 for amd64. I ran into this once before with another prog. I assume I'm not supposed to use ./ and maybe .run ....can anybody clue a noob boob into how to run this. Also on another related note my HP 842C does at least run on linux already. But I seem to have no control over features, which I have in windoze, such as printing in draft mode, etc. Are these features impossible in Ubuntu? Many TIA.

The HP web site has excellent directions on installing HPLIP which should answer your questions.

Thanks again. I read the HP site info, but I guess I missed that bit. I'll look. Cheers.
