Question powernowd

Hi all,

i was reading the book "Hacking Ubuntu" by Neil Krawetz. In this book there is a section named Speeding up boot time. in this section it is said that you can speed up boot time by disabling unwanted services. for disabling unwanted services he suggests the utility sysv-rc-conf. then the author suggests many services that may be disabled such as vbesave, rsync, readahead, pcmcia, powernowd, powernowd.early etc

the author says that

powernowd and powernowd.early- these services are used to control
variable-speed cpu's.Newer computers and laptops should have these
enabled but older systems do not need it.

now my question is as follows should i disable powernowd daemon??
I use P4 machine with 1.7 ghz cycle speed, with 256 MB RAM

You seem to be unsure whether you should disable this function or not, in which case why run the risk of breaking your system? Just how much boot up time would be saved by disabling this function? This is an old saying which still holds true: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
