PLEASE HELP ME! INSTALLION PROBLEM ON HP PAVILION a705w?

I have an HP PAVILION a705w computer that has the INTEL CELERON PROCESSOR that came from WALMARTS. I'm currently running WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION, but I would like to run the lastest version of UBUNTU that I have a copy of already. My problem is that when I try to INSTALL UBUNTU it gets to the INSTALL MENU then loops right back to the INSTALL MENU instead of going ahead and INSTALLING. I hope theirs someone here that can help me with this problem and find the fix or solution to it.

Thanks,

Paul Gunnells

Hey Paul,

I would guess that your problem is with the iso image. If you have it downloaded, try burning it again, otherwise download the latest ubuntu from their site and try again.

If you intend to dual booting this system, remember that HP have a recovery partition that contains your windows files and drivers, so toasting that will mean you will need access to a Winxp Home CD to reinstall XP down the track. Repartitioning and installing Ubuntu to the newly created partition would be faster/easier.

I hope this helps.

Regards

mick

Hi Paul
I'd agree with mick, and to add that when burning an iso image to do it at the slowest rate possible X4 is ok. I know it may take some time but it would mean you get a good burn and not have to re-burn etc

All the best

James

INSTALLION ON HP PAVILION a705w

THIS jsrealty2 I've been helping wolverine1 and found the solution to his problem. I'm also newbie to LINUX & UBUNTU. The solution is just to turn the acpi=off. To do so when the MENU APPEARS you must get out of the graphical interface by pressing the (ESC) key to go into the TEXT MODE. Once your in TEXT MODE the word BOOT: APPEARS in the top left corner of the COMPUTER SCREEN, then all you have to do is type in the word (live) with acpi=off behind it. HERES and EXAMPLE:

BOOT:live acpi=off

Once this is done it will install just fine on this particular machine.

Sincere thanks goes to those trying to help us!
