pcmcia ethernet card detected by ubuntu but not xubuntu
 

i have an old compaq laptop that i originally installed ubuntu on. it found my pcmcia ethernet card with no problems. the system was kind of slow so i decided to install xubuntu, but after the installation the ethernet card did not work. it shows power but it doesnt seem to be configured. what can i do to get the card detected? also why would this happen? i thought that all the *ubuntus had pretty much the same core, just different desktop managers.
