Password problems on 5.04

I just installed 5.04 and note a few things different - most of them for the better however when I installed 5.04 I chose to enable shadow passwords (what ever that is) and then set up a root password as well as a user password (different password from the root password).

Now I am attempting to set up networking - System/Administration/Networking and am asked to enter a password to run Network-admin. I have tried both passwords and never get in. I receive a message "Failed to run network-admin: child terminated with 1 status"

Can someone help me with this password/network setup problem? I have done a sudo apt-get install samba and believe that is now installed.

Still doesn't work!

When I type in Sudo password root I get a responsesudo: password: command not found.

Furthermore I continue to have password problems when starting in the terminal.

If I type

ray@ubuntu:~$ sudo get-app update
Password: <my password>

Then I get the following:
ray is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

Then if I type the following:
ray@ubuntu:~$ su
Password: <my password>

then I get:
root@ubuntu:/home/ray #

I have completely reloaded 5.04 but still get the same response - this above password problem and the lack of being able to get into >> System/Administration/Networking.

Any further ideas?

add your user to the sudoers file, the info should be in the sudo man page.
