P2P Connections refused - what do I have to fix?

I have just made a clean installation with Ubuntu 8.1, and the only program which I've installed is KMLDonkey (from Synaptic). I had thought that my firewall in a previous installment had something to do with this, but without that I'm still getting my connection attempts "refused". Is there a known port-forwarding issue? I'm new to Linux, I know nothing about standard ports, nor how to control them, and sure would like to know where a good primer on this subject exists, even if this isn't the cause of my P2P connection problems. Anybody seen this sort of problem in Ubuntu Linux? Please help!

Thanks.

Ubuntu doesn't ship with a firewall, but if you have a router, add the port used by KMLDonkey to the port forwarding menu or add the ports to the port triggering menu. It may also help others on the forums to help you if you posted any logs and whether you actually connected to the internet.

You may find a good primer and lots of information at https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/index.html

Hope this helps
