OpenOffice.org database wizard sucks wind

This problem has been beaten to death in the Ubuntu bugs forums.

The simple explanation of the bug is that there is an angle bracket missing in the java coding that your distribution calls when using the database functions of OpenOffice.org

This is, of course, roundly condemned by all who have to use the program on an Ubuntu platform. But it ain't gonna change anytime soon, I imagine - simply because changes like this seem to take mountain moving policy making.

So, how do you fix it? After all, you're not really interested in the politics of OS and repository upgrading, are you?

Check this link for a fast guide:

Probably fixing this one bracket will fix your problem.

If not, continue with the following 2 links (my comments) to come up with alternative approaches such as going to the OpenOffice.org site and downloading the RPMS and aliening them. OO.o does not seem to cause problems that way... but it takes the better part of an hour to do.
