Nvidia on an amd64
Hi i am an ex debian user, i have succesfully migrated to Ubuntu by changing the sources.lst file to ubuntu repositorys, i am running now Ubuntu on an AMD64 3000+ 512Mb with asus a8v deluxe and a riva TNT2 32mb. I complied a kernel based on a 2.6.8_amd64 kernel-image, following the steps mentioned on this great post http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...el+compilation
Now i am running my custom kernel. I downloaded the NVidia driver for amd 64 and i get an error saying i should look for an x86 driver, why? Anyway ,i did. Just to give it a try. Ive downloaded the x86 generic version of the driver but i get an error telling "unable to load nvidia.ko". ANy idea?, here is my current config file http://www.angelfire.com/sd/zorro12/....6.8-custom2.2 maybe the error is at kernel configuration,(i really suck at that) Thanks for the help. Ps : Sorry for my crapy english im Sudaka |
Since the nvidia drivers normally work in this distro, I'm guessing you missed something in your custom install. nvidia.ko doesn't ring a bell, I just installed an athlon 64 system with nvidia FX5500 and it installed fine. It might be that you installed the driver as a module instead as part of the kernal, but I don't know enough about this either. :) Just some fodder for thought.
