nvidia installation problems, tried envy etc.

I've been trying to get my graphics driver to work properly since december. I have a Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS with a ViewSonic vm1900 lcd Screen. I've tried installing it from the .run installer off Nvidia's site, Envy using all 3 of the available drivers, the Screen and Graphics Manager, and the Restricted Drivers Manager. Each and every time, i'll reboot and when it comes to the login screen, It'll flash a couple times, then go into low graphics mode, and start with the vesa drivers. I'd be content with the vesa drivers if I didn't want to use 3d Acceleration on games. My xorg.conf is below:
Code:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder3) Wed Sep 12 14:29:35 PDT 2007

# xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
# values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.
#
# You should use dexconf or another such tool for creating a "real" xorg.conf
# For example:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Did you read the header message in the xorg.conf file and try the command that's listed to correct the problem?

FWIW, that file says it was created Sept 12, 2007. The nVidia site posted a new driver Jan 21, 2008 that corrects a few bugs. Also, it appears that your monitor may be the culprit- that's what's listed as a 'Failsafe' device.

Cheers

When i tried that command, i got this:
Code:
nate@natecomp:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration
   file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20080207213555
nate@natecomp:~$
As for the monitor being failsafe, i don't really know how to fix that without screwing up the config.
