Question No sound/ sound card seen / no codec (proc/asound/card0 empty)-ICH7

Dear All,

I've installed Ubuntu 19.04 for my kids on old barebone Shuttle SD37P2 (Vendor doc says that Audio is ALC882)
(just added an SDD so it's more comfortable).

Already wasted few hours to troubleshoot my no sound issue...
Could an external USB card be an option ? (any cheap model to recommend ?)

Thanks for your support / info below:

The only audio card that seems to be properly installed is the HDMi one (but I've no speakers on my monitor)
/proc/asound/card0 => folder is empty
/proc/asound/card1 => contains info related to HDMI

Alsa report: Report Alsa (visible at the bottom=> snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: no codecs found!)

From hardware info (integrated chip on the motherboard is well detected, as well as the HDMi):

Code:
hwinfo --sound

Hi, & Welcome to LQ.

Don't add more soundcards yet. That's the last thing you need, imho.

I see an ATI s/card using an Intel driver :-//. I also see an intel soundcard.

Find the module for that ATI soundcard. If necessary, there's a preinstall command you can stick in /etc/modprobe.d/

preinstall intel_module ATI_module

this has the effect of throwing in the ati module before the intel one, and hopefully the ati card will be found. I presume you know how to use google, so let us know how you get on.

Hi,

There is only one sound card (the one integrated to the motherboard, ICH7). The ATI one is the HDMI that comes with the graphic card.
Weirdly Ubunty uses the same snd_hda_intel for both but /proc/asound/card0 remains empty for the chip integrated to the Motherboard, despite I've tried to force drivers (I've not tested all of them) from alsa-base.conf

Hi,

I did not add any soundcard: the ATI one is the graphic card that triggers the load of snd_hda_intel (same module as the integrated audio chip) as the one I'm trying to use.

How can I configure so the graphic / HDMI card is not loaded (Pavucontrol won't help and putting snd_hda_intel in the black list either).
