No sound: Kubuntu 5.10, Asus A8N SLi Deluxe, onboard sound

I've just put together a new computer:
Asus A8N SLi Deluxe Motherboard w/onboard sound, AMD 3700 CPU, NVidia 6800 graphics card, Kubuntu 5.10.

Reported no errors on install, but now i can't get the sound working.

If i do sudo apt-get install amarok i get:

Code:

avi@God:~$ sudo apt-get install amarok

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
amarok: Depends: libvisual0.2 (>= 0.2.0) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

If i try apt-get for libvisual, it can't find the package.

When i try to start up XMMS (it's already installed) it tells me to check the sound config. (Please check that: Your soundcard is configured properly. You have the correct output plugin selected. No other program is blocking the soundcard.)

If i go through the 'System Settings' then 'Sound and Multimedia' buttons, i can pick different engines, but none of them work - they all give me the same error.
I've tried google, but all it brings up are reviews, and another question the same as this on another forum, but with no answers...

Any ideas?

Well ubuntu has a lot of packages that are not available, but are available to debian these will be listed as "is not installable". Since you are running the kde version, I would get kaffine for your media player. But back to your sound card, it could be that it is incompatible, as my sound card worked right out of the box. But don't take my word, im just a noob.

Amarok is KDE's noise-making device. I've not even tried opening Kaffeine yet, figured i'd wait till i could hear the errors ;).
