No sound in Dapper Drake

Hi all,

I installed Dapper Drake about a week ago, and I haven't had any sound at all. The only sound I get is occurs before Ubunti even loads wheh I reboot. My motherboard has onboard sound. It's an ASRock intel socket 775 motherboard. The other problem is that the search function at the ubuntu forums is down. Thanks in advace for any help.

In the upper applet bar there is a speaker icon next to the date time. Right click and select "Open Volume Control". There are two tabs, Playback and Capture. In both, raise the volume slides and click the red X's on the small speaker icons to turn off mute.

Okay. I just tried doing that and it had no effect. I have another question: does it matter that my speakers are the Logitech z230 model? Thanks for trying.

Right click the icon again and select Preferences. Look at the drop down list. It may have multiple items in it. The one you want is the chip set on your motherboard. In my case, that is "VIA 8237 (Alsa mixer)". The devices in this list result from installed drivers. One of mine is for the Brooktree chip set on my TV board and there would be another if installed a web cam. That video icon can only control one of these devices at a time.
