No sound

I've just installed Ubuntu on my new laptop, not sure of the hardrive, but run the alsa-info shell script results posted here - http://pastebin.ca/763428

what should I do first?

Ok, I think I've established this is my card. I've worked all the way the way through the page to "Manually Specify Module Parameters" but when I run the specified command

Code:

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

I get

Code:

cat: /proc/asound/card0/codec#*: No such file or directory

if I run

Code:

cat /proc/asound/cards

though, I get

Code:

--- no soundcards ---

Now I'm stumped.
