no resume image, doing normal boot

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 with kde3.
When the system has booted instead of going to the log on screen it stays on tty1 with this message-

kinit: resume from /dev/disk/by-uuid/92b2e2ba-f756-4d20-b4f2-826ad672e232
kinit: no resume image, doing normal boot

I then have to log on and start kdm from the command line.

Can anyone please help with this.

Thanks in advance, Kenneth.

Well, what's your problem? Checking for a resume image is normally done every time you boot. (In case you did a "suspend," eh?)

If you want kdm to start automatically you have to change your default run level in /etc/inittab. I am not sure about Ubuntu's runlevels but I think that you want to use runlevel 2.

You can check what runlevel you are running with this command:

su runlevel
