No display - xorg.conf corrupted

Hi, I was trying to use my tv-out and entirely replaced my xorg.conf file with a different one.

When I restarted my computer , the display doesn't come to my screen . The TV-out card too isn't working .

Can anyone please suggest , how am I to see the display.

If you can't find the old one in /etc/X11 just rename your xorg.conf to something else and restart X.

Newish versions of Xorg server don't usually need a config. If that doesn't work, then try xorgsetup which usually builds a correct one or at least something close. Then edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change what you need.

Can you get to the graphical desktop at all? Does it just not work with TV out? Or does it not even work with a computer monitor?

If you can't get to the desktop at all, then try booting the Ubuntu live CD and running the option to fix the display. It is called xfix fix video (or something like that).

In the future, if you want to try replacing xorg.conf (or any other configuration file) just rename it xorg.conf.bak. This way you can easily replace the new xorg.conf with the original xorg.conf.bak if something goes wrong.

And welcome to the LQ forums!
