1000baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full

I can set it to 100mb/s full duplex and its fine but when I set it to 1000mb/s it doesn't communicate with the network at alL???? any help would be greatly appricated as I would like to use the nic to its full potentinal.

1st obvious question: Is the rest of the network 1 gigabit too? Do you have other PCs on the network which are using 1Gb?

Yes, the system and a few other systems are all on a gigabit switch with gigabit nics.

Can you post the results of sudo ethtool eth0 when the card is set to 1Gb?

Hey, here is the ethtool eth0 when it is set to 1000mb/s

Supported ports: [ TP ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 1000Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 0
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: off
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x00000037 (55)
Link detected: yes

Once its set to 1000mb/s the nic no longer talks to the network. Its as if the system is unplugged from the network. It is also plugged into the gigabit switch and has the proper cat5 for a gigabit network.
