Newbie- getting message - database locked by another application?
I am trying to get Automatix for Kubuntu (which is what I have installed) to install skype, some plug-ins and a few other random things.
I run automatix and select all of the programs I want then say install. When it goes to install in the autoscript_kubuntu window before it install each program it says this:
dpkg: status database area is locked by another process
(all of the programs I am trying to install are listed here)
E: Could not lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 resource temporarilty unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
(all of the programs I am trying to install are listed again)
Only one software installation tool (like Adept) can be used at one time, so close any others.
If you're sure no other install tool is running, delete /var/lib/dpkg/lock as root.
I had the same problem with Automatix and mine was because there were updates I had to do before I could use it. That little orange star burst thing at the bottom of the screen told me so . Anyway, after I updated, Automatix worked.
